Built from 2002 to 2004, the Bavaria 44 is essentially the same boat as the 2004 onwards Bavaria 46, and in fact is almost 46 ft in length! It is a high-volume cruiser aimed primarily at the charter market, although an 'owners' version with single, larger aft cabin was also produced.
Designed by J & J Designs in collaboration with Bavaria GmbH, the Bavaria 44 is a high-volume modern cruiser with lots of internal space for a large family or group cruising.
The GRP hull has Divinycell closed cell foam sandwich above the waterline and in the deck moulding, whilst the underwater parts are solid GRP, kevlar-reinforced around the bow. Various options are offered, the example illustrated here having the standard iron bulbed fin keel, but an uprated 7/8 fractional triple-spreader rig with fully battened main.
In the four-cabin version of the Bavaria 44 the master cabin is the double-berth forecabin. Aft of this is the forward heads, and a small cabin with two bunks. Aft are two mirror-image aftcabins, and another haeds compartment
The Bavaria 44 interior is finished in sapele mahogany veneers, over marine ply and composite materials, with lots of solid mahogany trim, giving a very attractive and traditional look. The interior is really spacious, with wider than usual doors to cabins. There is a reasonable sized chart table, although this yacht has an electronic chartplotter fitted. There are twin mirror-image double aft cabins, each with seating and standing area as well as the 6' 8" by 5' double berth.
The twin wheels make handling much easier, and allow a walkway through to the boarding platform aft.
